We have been traveling around and one photo I took was of Ecuador's
only railroad.
After the civil war ended in 1905, this railroad was built as part of
a dream to unite Ecuador by train. The goal was too connect Quito, the capital with
Guayaquil, the major port. When built the track was a technical master piece that
challenged the Andes. The part known as Devil's Nose is a steep part in the run,
which only could be mastered by switchbacks. This is the last part of the track still
running and its very old. We passed one of the two trains (made from a truck) on our trip and I
got this shot.
Here are some more pics from the internet of the other train. This is
just a tourist deal now and the people ride on top of the train. The views
are outstanding!
